“I was getting bored with my routine, mainly, going through the motions but not really pushing myself hard enough anymore…This has kicked started me back to a good daily exercise habit.”
Manager at Neurot Recordings, an independent record label
I’ve always been active and have dedicated time to exercise for as long as I can remember. However, I took an office job 5 years ago, which really slowed down my activity level. I was continuing to work out at home, but I was spending less time at it. I was getting bored with my routine, mainly, going through the motions but not really pushing myself hard enough anymore. My friend Leah (who used to be a member in Spokane, and now is also an FGF@Home member since moving to Portland) told me about the program, so when the second session opened up, I signed up. This has kicked started me back to a good daily exercise habit.
My greatest fitness accomplishment was I vowed to go into my 40’s being in the best shape of my life and I accomplished it. Unfortunately the desk job has taken its toll on that but thanks to FGF I’m working back at it again.
My main goals are to remain active and strong in order to do the outdoor things I love.
My kids! I want to keep skiing, hiking, mountain biking, etc with my kids for as long as possible. Doing things with them helps to build a strong bond. The family that plays together stays together. I also want to be a good role model for them. If they see me taking care of myself then they’ll learn to do it also. I make sure they know it’s not about trying to look good, but it’s about feeling good and having the endurance and strength to do the things you enjoy in life.
Least favorites are Burpees! Also Double Unders are my nemesis. That rope is out to get me. If I’m in my weight room and you hear me cussing, it’s because that jump rope is whipping me in the face or getting caught under my foot. I will master those eventually, I swear!
It changes depending on my mood but I definitely like it fast and loud to keep me going. When I feel like I don’t have much left in me and something like Motorhead or Dr. Know comes on my play list, I’m like, “Hell yeah I can power through this.”
“Shut the f*** up and finish it.” Sorry, but that’s exactly what I’m thinking. Sometimes that voice creeps in and tells me to use a lighter weight or do fewer reps, but I know I have to push myself outside the comfort zone in order to make improvements.
I love seeing the Facebook posts from the other gals about getting the Grind completed, how it made them feel, the time it took to do it, etc. It keeps me motivated. There are days where I think I don’t have time to get it done, and then I pop onto Facebook and see the other gals’ posts, which reminds me that if they did it so can I!
It’s gotten me back into my daily routine again and I can feel it in my energy level throughout the entire day. It’s also influenced my 14-year-old daughter. She saw one of the workout I had printed and pinned on the wall and asked if she could do it (like I’d say no or something, hahaha). Seeing that this has influenced her to get moving is awesome! I’m hoping to gain her as my workout partner. :)
Definitely Schweitzer Mountain in the winter, and the rest of the year it’s anywhere in nature.
“Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.”
Beer/Cocktails. But I have to earn the extra calories for it. I’ll do a bike ride or something else when I know I’m going to have some drinks.
HA! I’m way too uncoordinated for dancing.
Of my 3 kids. Not sure how I got so lucky in the kid department but I love the strong-minded and wise people they’ve grown to become.
My grandmother. She was active and walked daily, gardened, etc. well into her 80s. She took care of things herself rather than relying on others. I admire that so much and strive to be the same.
